A calendar is posted and sent home describing the activities in which your child will be participating each month. Many of the classroom activities cannot be brought home each day. Hopefully, the calendar will enable you to interact with your child in a more specific way about his/her day at preschool. We have a daily routine that we follow, but there are some days when we vary the routine so we can do special projects. The following list highlights a typical preschool day.
50-60 Minutes FREE CHOICE TIME
This is where each child chooses from one or more centers depending on his or her interests for the day. Some centers are offered daily, while others are offered on a rotations basis.
10 Minutes CLEAN UP TIME
We encourage teamwork, and everyone helps until the room is neat and tidy.
20 Minutes CIRCLE TIME
Here we do the calendar, weather, select a special helper, have a Bible story, and do our monthly memory verse. We discuss what we did during free play, sing some songs, listen to records, play group games, and instruments.
15 Minutes ACTIVITY ROOM, GYMNASIUM OR OUTDOOR PLAY
Climbing toys are used in the Activity Room. In the Gymnasium we play games, run relays, or parachute activities. In nice weather we use the outdoor playground.
10-15 Minutes RESTROOM BREAK AND SNACK TIME
We generally have juice or milk, and crackers, fruit, pretzels, etc.,
20-30 Minutes KINDERGARTEN READINESS
We work around the tables or we have another Circle Time that may include Music, Science, ABC or Number readiness activities. We also introduce these skills in the Tues/Thurs class through workbooks, flash cards, and musical activities. The routine is the same for the Tues/Thurs morning program, but each routine is shortened.
10 Minutes CLOSING STORY
Discuss the events of the day and tomorrow’s coming events.
5 Minutes TOTES-NOTES-COATS
We sing our Good-bye song.
